The Hudson Sloop Club is in its third year of offering free after-school workshops in boat building and wood working at the Montgomery C. Smith Intermediary School, where we build traditional and experimental boats with 5th and 6th graders.
The HSC also offers a day of free community sailing, fishing and general river fun for all ages every second Sunday of the month and from June through September.
The Sloop Club offers summer camp annually with sliding scale admission in an ongoing partnership with Kite's Nest. For more information check out Kites Nest website HERE.
This summer we are offering a special one day island adventure workshop through the Hudson Opera House. For more info check out the Hudson Opera Houses website HERE.
Boat-building classes are led by Nick Zachos, a local carpenter and boatbuilder trained at The Carpenter's Boat Shop in Pemaquid, Maine. Sailing classes are led by Sloop Club captain's, Christin Ripely, Sam Merrett and Margot Becker.
As the Hudson Sloop Club grows we hope to expand our educational programs to reach a wider group of children and adults. We hope to collaborate with even more local organizations, schools, and programs on boat building, sailing, rowing, river ecology and history.
Check our blog for updates, and let us know if you'd like to get involved.
