The Hudson Sloop Club is dedicated to bringing the Hudson River back into the daily lives of our community. We believe that if members of the community are given the opportunity to enjoy, learn about and engage with the river, they will be able to build a relationship with the river and might then begin to feel a responsibility to this environmental resource and become the natural stewards that the Hudson River deserves.

The Hudson Sloop Club Inc. was founded in 2014. Inspired by the rich history of sloop clubs started by Pete Seeger, the Hudson Sloop Club is a grassroots, mostly volunteer organization which aims to protect, restore and celebrate the Hudson River through community engagement. We have accomplished this through free public sails, after school and summer camp programs, all-age boatbuilding classes, and river clean up events. In 2022 we partnered with 6 different vessels to host 43 public, free-of-charge boat trips which served 544 passengers. In 2023 we look forward to introducing our solar powered mobile ecology education center. Starting in 2021 we have been granted annual contracts with the City of Hudson to manage their commercial dock space and encourage vessels specializing in public programming and education to visit Hudson, NY.

The Sloop Club operates as a public cooperative which not only provides access to all members but will actively reach out to those who might not find their way to the river on their own. We aim to facilitate recreation on river through free on the water programming, maintaining access to public docks and slips, river ecology education for all ages, and the artistic celebration of our beautiful river.
